Around and around
“Proust spent most of his war years writing and revising, feverishly adding thousands of pages to his work about the destruction of both the past and our fantasy of the past, and about the problem of hope that takes the form of illusion.  The mourning that Proust expresses most eloquently is not for the loss of what was possessed; it is for the loss of what was, on the contrary, never...

The Bright and the Dark
I owned and read this book many times when I was young.  I loved it.  It inspired a macabre fascination with the darker areas of the human psyche. This book kickstarted a lasting interest in the study of psychology although I did not go on to pursue psychology.  (My enthrallment with this book was also probably responsible for the flowering of my goth-damage!)    The things one remembers…

Ground Control wants to know
Jemaine:
Does the space cold do funny things to your nipples
Making them all pointy, Bowie?
And do you use your pointy nipples as telescopic antennae
Transmitting data back to Earth?
Bret:
Data back to Earth
Jemaine:
Bet you do, you freaky old bastard, you.

Wanderlusting
For a few weeks last month, off and on, I indulged in daydreams about living in New York.  Not daydreaming about trying to make a splash in any kind of endeavor or to achieve a specific cherished goal.  I  just want to live there and to enjoy living there without a defined purpose accompanying it.  I am succoring this desire a bit by visiting NYC the last week in July.  When it will be hot and...

Dear Papyrus
Eight dollars for a birthday card?  Really?  Yes there is a festive splash of glittery stuff to the design on front and maybe the card stock is of a nicer quality than drugstore cards.  And the card itself is slightly larger than standard greeting cards of yore but EIGHT DOLLARS?  Is the card made from repurposed birchwood and put together with fairy dust and unicorn semen?

Word Whoring
One of my favorite sites to visit is Phrontistery.info.  A great place for obscure words and vocabulary resources.  I have a bit of a fetish for (adoration for? nostalgic pining for?) obscure and archaic words.  I regret that some of the more bizarre ones are fading into oblivion even as the modern lexicon gathers others such as LOL, OMG, wut? and etc. A word that caught my snarky fancy during...

Untold hours
is what I expect it is going to take to get familiar with the ins and outs of using/posting in tumblr.  I don’t have that much downtime at work for all this blog larnin’ stuff.  But I’ll give it a go.  I mean, everybody is doing it, dahlink. What would Andy Warhol do?
